Go look at the Marathon Story Page-- bungie's FPS game for the Mac before they did Myth and Oni.

marathon.bungie.org/story

THAT'S a deep story. Halo, while interesting, is fairly straightforward and simple in comparison.

Well, Narcogen, you really haven't done that much homework for Halo. Let me tell you just a few of those little tidbits about Halo that make the plot so much infinitely deeper than what your Joe Grunt can comprehend:
(1) The same symbol is used for the human military in Halo as in Marathon, making Halo a far-removed prequel.
(2) Cortana is the most advanced A.I. ever produced, partly because she was based on a living model, being a CREATIVE A.I., she is supposed to (effectively) self-destruct after seven years. That means there's no cases of rampancy yet, but Cortana has had several 'power rushes' very similar to Durandal's.(in Halo's databases, and while tapping human coded docs)
(3) Halo was more than just factory produced holding pens for the flood. The Covenant had been searching several human planets for a very particular artifact. This artifact turned out to be a granite slab, which(as Cortana noted just before retreating from Reach) had many incongruities which turned out to be star charts. Cortana used those charts to formulate her jump to Halo. Thus, whoever made the Halos wanted them to be found, and the Covenant's crusade has led them there for some reason.
(4) Spartans aree precursors to the Marathon Security Unit. The difference is between a Mk. III and Mk. IV, I believe.
(5) The Spartans were cloned after they were successfully modified. But these clones for some reason were never heard from again, not even as the Covenant destroyed more and more Spartans.

There. Now that's not nearly everything, just what I personally have gleaned from basic knowledge of Marathon's storyline, from Halo, and from Halo:the Fall of Reach.
I personally voted for Online Multiplayer, because A) graphics are always improved to some degree in a sequel, B) the vehicles represented in Halo, while not numerous, do effectively represent different combat classes, and C) see above. One of the coolest things, however, in both reading the book, and in just playing larger LAN games, is to have teams combining vehicle and infantry tactics on a large scale. To see Halo stepped up just so that each team could file into a pair of Warthogs, fill every seat, and have enough guys left to assume sniper positions from multiple angles, would have to be the coolest advancement for any FPS.
Anyway, that's how I feel.
(BTW, this is my first post, just registered tonight).
