  2. Ars Technica Pronounces Halo 'Purty

Sun, 05/21/2000 - 20:12 by noctavis

Luxor of Halo Vault was the first to note that the popular PC site Ars Technica has awarded Halo the Damn, that’s a purty game of show award:

Nobody who saw the demo of Halo at E3 will ever be the same. Drop-jawed, eyes agape, spectators came away from the Bungie booth the way theater goers did after the first time they saw Star Wars. Wow!Game details are still being tweaked but the basic concept is thus: you will play a cyborg who will travel through the environments of an enormous 3D planet. Alien enemies will be the thorn in your side. Both single player and multiplayer modes will be included. The multiplayer game will most likely be squad based such as in Team Fortress or Tribes. The physics model is perhaps the thing that really grabbed everyone’s attention. Clipping problems were not detected, dead bodies slide down slopes instead of lying horizontal and protruding from the terrain. The Vehicles respond to bumps and jumps with what appears to be 4-wheel suspension. Tanks knock over jeeps. Skeletal animation is used for character models. Everything from gravel to tree leaves are individually modeled. Enough, enough! Man, the wait for this one is going to hurt!

You can read their full listing of games here. With all of this excitement we'll have to see how people react when they get the actual game in their hands.
