  2. MWA's Myth III Impressions

Sat, 05/19/2001 - 18:01 by acrappa

Myk The Lame was fortunate enough to get a good look at Myth III during his visit to E3 and has come back with an interesting report to share. Yet another Myth fan who left wanting more; here's what he had to say:

The meshes themselves are guaranteed to shock. The detail level is so far superior to Myth II's capabilities that the prettiest Creation Games releases would appear marginal in comparison. The most important graphical change is hands down the transition from sprites to scalable 3d models for everything from units to the multiplayer balls. The models have been built with the lower-end computer in mind: They can drop polygons here and there and still look impressive while significantly lessening the load on your graphics card and cpu.

Thankfully, the unit shadows are based on the same skeletal model that allows extremely realistic unit movement, which means all users get the same shadows. Fisj describes the process as: You take the skeletal model, throw blobs on the ground, and boom you have shadows. Sounds unimpressive, but the effect is exceptional. Just wait until you watch the shadow of your sword disappear into the torso of a myrkridia.

Myk has many more interesting comments, so don't miss this one. MWA also promises some pictures taken from the E3 floor; keep an eye out.
