Kudos to the fine fellows over at Onicore, who have scored what they (and we) have no doubt been waiting more than a year for: the Oni beta test is imminent. Citing Bungie's Doug Zartman and Matt Soell as their sources, they managed to obtain some tantilizing information:

Well after a short talk with Doug Zartman yesterday some interesting things about Oni's imminent release came to light. Apparently Oni is either in early, or about to enter Beta. The closest thing to Doug's exact wording would be a playable beta for the press.
