Regarding our item yesterday on the individual named IO-Stream , Matt Soell had a bit of a reply for his second quote, regarding a supposed Halo server program:

What the poster on IGN says goes totally against what we've been saying internally, and I really doubt a Bungie person said what he claims they said.

The anticipated incompatibility between Xbox and PC/Mac versions of Halo has also been old news for awhile, but there doesn't appear to be any reason right now to expect for Mac and PC versions to be dissimilar on critical issues such that they are incompatible for multiplay.
