  2. Simultaneous Cross Platform Development Over at Bungie?

Mon, 01/22/2001 - 17:11 by narcogen

It's been suspected for some time now, but never really explicitly stated. So I'll have to reach deep into Ferrex's deep dark stash of hidden kudos to hand some out to Digital Justice, who pointed out in our forum today a minor revelation from Microsoft on the pages of GameSpy's PlanetXBox today:

We have learned from a Microsoft PR rep the following, The PC/Mac versions are still in the plan, but the team is only working on the Xbox version right now. Work on the other versions will start when this one is finished. When asked if the release of Halo would be staggered across the platforms being developed for we learned, The Xbox version is the top priority... the others will come later on.

While it's obviously heartening to hear continued confirmation that Halo will see the light of day on the Macintosh and Windows platforms... eventually... it is sad to see a company take a step backwards this way. Bungie made its way from being a niche developer in the Macintosh market to a true cross-platform development company producing quality, simultaneous releases, and it seems a shame for that to end in deference to any platform, even if that platform is the Mother Ship's own golden child, the X-Box.
