  2. Daily Radar Kicks Out a New Preview and Movie

Sat, 11/18/2000 - 00:23 by noctavis

Daily Radar popped out a new Oni preview which includes some storyline hints as well as a description one of the cooler weapons... the mercury bow. DR had this to say, so close to Oni's release:

Most combat, though, happens hand to hand. Using the directional keys and the mouse buttons, the player controls not only the character's movement but also her attacks. Simple button mashing will only go so far; the best moves are combinations. These are simpler than the stuff found on console platform games but still involve a good deal of skill, mostly in the timing of the moves. It's a learning curve, but the complex moves are well worth the effort. That's actually half the fun of the game, getting good at the complex moves, then watching Konoko pull off these amazing fights. The graphics engine is truly impressive; no one else has done this level of animation on the PC for hand-to-hand combat. Clearly this title is striking out into new territory; there has been no market for fighting games on the PC -- that is until now. Even hardcore PC gamers who don't like console fighting games should be interested in Oni. While it's taken a long time to get this far, we think Oni is going to kick a lot of ass.

And to cap it off, they posted up another movie of some action within the game.
