The Big Coverup!
I'm kidding, of course... a note from one of the Bungie d00dz points out that the Mark Gacini mentioned in the MacNN article below appears to be either a typo or a case of mistaken identity. Hmph... so much for that mystery.

For those of you who can stomach rising with the sun, Steve Jobs is scheduled to give the MWNY Keynote address tomorrow morning at 9:00am EST. For those of you with a fast internet connection (and no satellite with which to watch the live broadcast), you can catch the webcast and see if the rumors are true... I hope my 33.6 is up to the task, but if any of you speed viewers see anything interesting, give me a shout (just in case).
Kudos to Freewill, who pointed out a potentially interesting news clip from MacNN:
Several hundred people gathered this morning at Jacob Javitz Center in Manhattan for the Town Meeting, the official kickoff of Macworld Expo New York '99. The Town Meeting differed quite a bit from the previously announced agenda, as several of the scheduled speakers failed to show. These included Mitch Mandich, Apple's Senior VP of Retail Sales, Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies, Greg Galanos of Metrowerks, Mark Gacini from Bungie software (formally chief Gaming Evangelist at Apple), as well as Andy Gore, Editor-in-chief of Macworld.Hmm, I wonder what Mark Gacini was going to talk about? Actually, this is the first I've heard of Mark. Anyone else have a clue?
Good question (first I've heard of him too). What did we miss out through his absence? And more importantly, will that omission be made up for later?
Still not Blam related, but of interest to Mac gamers in general... 3Dfx has released their generic Voodoo2 drivers, earlier than expected, with which Mac users can use just about any Voodoo2 card out there. A few Badlanders were playing with them, and initial reports are good. Plus, Voodoo2 cards are nice and cheap now...
Personally, I'm holding out for the Voodoo3 drivers, but no date has been given on those, and I've heard murmurings that they're months off... hmm.
Calm before the storm, I hope. Not much new stuff today... Marathon's Story has some info on the Action Sack release, fixed up a peculiar bug in the forum, put off dissecting the last poll yet again... heh. Let's hope MWNY gives us something to do.
Big kudos to darkus, of Onicore, for passing along this little tidbit:
Rex, as the man Tuncer states on IMG:What I'm really looking forward to is the Steve Jobs keynote. I've learned that a few game companies will be showing off some hot new games at the keynote but I'm prohibited by saying which ones. I can guarantee that one of them will be a major shock and it will come from a company we all know and love. Care to take a guess as to who?
Well, it's nothing certain, but a Bungie announcement is now a distinct possibility. Whether or not it will be Oni stuffs or (bestill our hearts) a Blam announcement is unsure, but we'll be sure to keep an eye (or more) on this keynote. Stay tuned.
Thus far, two people have mentioned problems reading this page due to a crash, apparently on Netscape (version and system configuration uncertain). If you're having the problem (and somehow seeing this), please let me know so I can try to find out what it is. And in the off chance you actually know what's going from (from looking at the source), let me know ASAP so I can amend this fault.
No sooner than I had posted a plea for MWNY reporters than two people stepped up to the plate. Kudos, and third portions of my soul, go to plague and Wightmeat, who will both be on hand at MWNY on our behalf. Cameras in hand, they'll be keeping an eye out for those of us unable to attend, and with luck we should get some interesting pictures and reports from this Expo.
Well, I don't think I have the time to exert as much effort into ignoring this poor page anymore, so I'm afraid it'll be back to daily (even if they're meaningless) updates. Ignoring things this completely is hard work, you know...
I am, however, going to give the Features and Resources sections a much needed break. At least, until I can fix that damn Database script.
Completely non-Blam related, Biodegrader is a Deathmatch fixer plugin currently under development and testing by Badlands, as well as a brave few others. Due to the lack of a major HL distribution center, I've posted a copy of it here, so anyone willing to try it out and file bug reports is welcome to grab it and give it a whirl.
It works just like Clumpfix, in that the host just needs to activate it, and the players just need to have it. When active, it will gradually cause projectiles to expire, preventing the map from overflowing (the principle bug with Deathmatch). It's subtle, but it works great... so far.
