Jay Kootar at Mumbo Jumbo Games has updated his .plan file, this time with a short and somber poem:
Robert Frost -Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Mumbo Jumbo, we hardly knew ye.
ActionTrip has reviewed Myth III and was a bit harsh on it, giving it a 71% overall score. Other than the strong story and visual content, ActionTrip couldn't get over the flaws and lack of innovation:
Mumbo Jumbo obviously could've done a lot better. Not only did they slack off while writing AI routines, and ship a buggy game, but they also didn't innovate the series in any way; let alone take it to the next level. As a big fan of the Myth series, I find it inadmissible that someone could sit on such a wealth of potential and do such a sloppy job in the end. Myth III was still fun to play, though at times extremely frustrating, but it pains me to think what Bungie would've done with it, had they the chance to do it themselves.
The user comments reveal to ActionTrip the short development time Mumbo Jumbo had, but they still stand by their review.
There is also an image gallery; enjoy. (Thanks Myth Village)
Kudos to Blades Oliva for scanning the Mac Myth III advertisement in the December 2001 issue of MacWorld magazine. The image is archived here at rampancy, so check it out.
Myth Village is reporting that Norton has updated the Anti-Virus definitions and Myth III no longer reads as being infected with the nimda virus. The updated definitions are available at Symantec.
On the multiplayer map tour de fourts the trow cannot walk on the bridges.
Just played through the level where connacht first has the tain and noticed the following:
- When you do the special tain attack it plays the tain sound twice
- After the camera zooms in on the pack mage, connacht nolonger can use his tain attack
Myth Village is reporting:
Thanks to help from Computer Associates we have confirmed earlier suspicions. Myth III full and the demo do not contain the Nimda virus. This was a false positive on Norton's part and should be fixed during the next update. Also note that any installer using a recent version of the Installer Shield will also trigger this same false positive.
Very relieving news for gamers, Mumbo Jumbo, and Take2.
iggy popped posted a long message in the MWA forum stating what to expect from the soon to be released Myth III patch. iggy also says that Vengeance is being worked on and could possibly be out this month.
On the Mac demo and retail version:
the plan has been to roll these changes into the mac version, there shouldn't be a separate download for the mac users. also, the mac demo will be out soon and should include 2 solo and 1 multi map. the mac demo will also be made up of the latest game content.
Thanks go to ax for the linkage.
The Myrgard Times has been covering the Myth III/nimda issue fairly well and Drunkbob has noted some important information:
Two very important notes about this whole virus thing: First off, do not run the uninstaller, this is apparently how the virus is primarily activated. Secondly, the Myth III demo is also infected.
Also, Rohan wrote a post at MWA guiding users how to rid of the virus. This should be a fine solution, but there will likely need to be some action taken by Take2 or Mumbo Jumbo.
ax sent us a link to the installshield.is6.general newsgroup, which is currently discussing the nimda virus. Apparently, this may not be an issue limited to the Myth III CD because it is likely an issue with Install Shield. Rick Lowe writes:
I just found it tonight.
We run NAV CE 7.51
W32.nimda.enc(dr) found on ikernel.ex_
Wonder if this is due to a bug in the latest virus def update?
A few months ago after an update, NAV found a virus on bat files.
Even ones on the NT Resource kit CD.
The next update which they put out quickly fixed this problem.
Hopefully this is what we have here.
ikernel.ex_ is the infected file, which is on the Myth III CD as well as in the Installer Shield files.
