oni

Kudos to Bullseye, who just pointed out this fantastic bit of new: Oni has been confirmed for the Playstation 2! The news comes from Yahoo, and gives the finer details of the deal. An excerpt:

We wish. ;)

According to MacGames.de, via halo.bungie.org, Take Two is slating Oni for release in June and Halo in September, more or less on Bungie's original target date. Just in time for school... so much that semester.

Of course, these are probably estimates to be taken with a grain of salt. Take Two is indeed Bungie's publisher, but the actual schedule depends on Bungie, and not until they give out a firm date can we be sure about this.

Two of the Pax Nimbus, SiliconDream and DeusExMachina, made it to MWSF and to the Gathering of Fans on Wednesday the 5th. Despite great hardship - including Silly's damaged camcorder, problems converting the video to QT format and pizza-bloat - they managed to film a number of things, convert it to QuickTime format and hand it off to me so that I could share it with the rest of you.

Kudos to Xzzy, who pointed out in the forum that Oni has been selected as 3Dfx Gamers' featured game. I can't be sure if there's any truly new info there, as MWSF kinda threw off my state of Oni awareness, but this is certainly a feather in Bungie West's cap.

Score! Claude Errera at bungie.org appears to have cornered Bungie's Matt Soell for long enough to get an interview out of him, touching on topics from Bungie staff to Soulblighter vs. Konoko. And, of course, there's some interesting Halo info in there, so be sure to stop by and take a look-see.

A bit more clarification from Bungie's Matt Soell on halo.bungie.org's forum tonight, regarding Halo's presence at MacWorld San Francisco. Asked whether or not there would be any hands on Halo, Matt had this to say:

Halo will be there in some form, but you won't be able to walk up to a machine and play it.

Bad news for some, but I must admit I am sourly pleased, given my inability to attend this particular event. Grumble... bah humbug, too. ;)

Certainly wasn't expecting this development... as reported by IMG, Oni Project Lead Brent Pease has left Bungie West. No details are available yet, but it does seem likely that Oni will be a little bit later as a result. More details as they arise...

Not Halo related, but considerably better than nothing. The second half of Harry Al-Shakarchi's trip to Bungie West has been posted at oni.bungie.org, complete with several interviews and a lot of interesting facts regarding Oni. A good read, and definitely worth the clicks.

Kudos again to CyberBob, who has translated and posted a transcript from the Oni half of the PC Action film (having previously translated the Halo section). While nothing ground breaking is revealed, it's certainly a worthwhile read for anyone keeping an eye on Oni.

Synox has pointed out in a forum post that there is a new Halo movie on the cover CD of the German magazine PC Action:

Bah, boring day. My daily patrol of the news sites has turned up little of interest (read: none), and no shocking revelations on the forum. Periods of intense excitement broken up by long quiet phases, c'est la vie.

The poll is progressing nicely, despite the unforeseen lopsided result. I expected a pro-Oni vote, but it appears we have overestimated the no netplay, no sale sentiment. And for the 5.25 of you who don't know what Oni is, edify yo'self.

Kudos to Mark Levin (and others) who pointed out the new Oni and Halo preview at Games Domain. The dual preview is a fantastic one, going into great depth on both games. New facts are revealed in both, such at this interesting tidbit:

Completely off topic, but noteworthy nonetheless. Inside Mac Games is reporting that Half-Life for MacOS has been cancelled, abruptly and unexpectedly. The reasons center around cost concerns, which is understandable, but this is still a disappointment for Mac gamers, Half-Life being the excellent game that it is.

Still, it isn't like we have nothing to look forward to. Overshadowed by the bombshell report is an interesting note about Oni, which is more appealing with every outing. Win some, lose some, I guess...

If you were looking for Oni info, then it was a good place to be (despite the relative chaos). As for Halo info, very little, if any was given, so don't worry if you missed out on it. About the only remotely Halo related tidbit was that Oni will not be set in the same universe as Halo or Marathon...

For a wrap up of the interview, you might want to check out Onicore in the next day or so, as they're sure to be dissecting it in more detail than I will be.

A quick reminder: IMG will be hosting a chat with Bungie West's Brent Pease in about two hours time, at 9:00pm CST. Yours truly will be sitting in, listening for any interesting tidbits, and if you've got any Oni questions, be sure to stop by.
