Gamer's Republic article on Oni scanned

Not sure if this is entirely sanctioned, but Oni Central has posted scans of an article from the June 2000 Gamer's Republic magazine. From Oni Central:

The article is an interview with Bungie president Alex Seriopian and Rockstar president Sam Houser. A lot of new information is in this interview accompanied by a batch of new screenshots.

For the record, Rockstar Games is the company bringing Oni to the PlayStation 2. The article is worth a read, so if Gamer's Republic is available at a newsstand near you, be sure to pick it up if you're looking for a fix of new Oni information.

New Aleph One Build

Version 0.10.5 of of theOpen Source Marathon project, Aleph One , is available. The new build features changes to field-of-vision management, teleportation and other effects, as well as some bug fixes. Go check it out!

PS2 Oni Movies

Just a little addition to the Oni item below: the ps2.ign.com Oni preview also has three small movies (around 3.5 megs each) posted for download. Can't comment on them yet, since they're still slogging their way through my connection, but they appear to be even newer than the E3 2000 demonstration movie. Definitely worth checking out.

Halo on V5 5500 Box?

CyberBob just pointed out a post in halo.bungie.org's by MAK, who points out a photo taken of the Voodoo5 5500 AGP box, which can be seen here.

The shot right below the Voodoo5 text... what do you think? Kinda small and hard to tell, but since when has that stopped us? Looks very much like the jeep, headlines going full blast... quite the feather in Bungie's cap if Halo is being used as a graphics card showcase in pre beta state.

ps2.ign.com's Oni preview

Oni Central has a note up pointing us to ps2.ign.com's Oni preview. Thanks to Dan Rudolph, who posted the item in the Oni Central forum.

From the review:

When we first got to play Oni, most of the game world wasn't populated with enemies. However, in one special level, we did have the chance to see her fight against at least four other enemies. The game's strongest points are found in the blend of martial arts fighting and weapon-based combat and its full 3D range of moves. Its one thing to use a weapon, but it's another to knock an enemy's weapons from his hands, pick that same weapon up, and then dust him with it. That's satisfying.

The preview also notes just how huge Oni's 17 levels really are, as well as how many polygons make up the Konoko model in the PS2 version-- a stunning 1,200. Go have a look for yourself.

Halo Command crashes

It appears that computer problems have claimed a good deal of the content as well as a new design for the Halo Command fan site. From the news:

A tragedy has befallen us all. My mac of 4 years has died, taking with it my website, a good number of un-posted speculations, and my awesome new site design. As I stuggle to recollect the shattered remnants of Halo Command, I debate whether it is worth it. Being part of the Halo community is great - but Halo Command simply doesn't have the design, the info, or the immense wealth of information that other sites such as halo.bungie.org and HaloCenter have. I am moving on to other things now; I have become one of the staff of Pokeball.net, I am working vigorously on a simply amazing new clan, iHalo, and I am doing a few other side projects along the way. Hopefully, maybe even another Halo site somewhere along the line. I hate to see Halo Command fade off into the distance, but perhaps this is the way it was meant to be...

Breaking news! Sibrax of the famed Soon Bungiefen culture site, along with a couple of co-conspirators (for SHAME! ;-) has gotten some of us with his latest stunt. Read this from our forum:

OMG Sibrax rocks! Somehow Soon got a copy of the E3 halo movie. Or, not the actual movie, but the trailer for the movie.
and it's only 2.5 megs! OMG quicktime rocks!

go to Soon? and see it before bungie makes him take it down! I haven't looked at it yet, it's still downloading, but I can't wait!

SciFi.Com has done some short previews of the ten most promising games from this year's E3 expo, and guess which Bungie title made it into the list? Wasn't hard to figure out, was it? ;-) Cpt. Sqweky was the observant fellow who found and reported this to us. Keep your eyes peeled, everyone, and let us know when you find something... we're certain to see a lot more of Halo in the Net.

More of Halo and Oni in GameSpot's E3 Area

GameSpot has a couple of new areas up in its E3 coverage. They've revisited E3 '99 to see how well last year's big games have done. Oni is included in that section but they appear to be less than happy with its progress. They've also listed the Editors' picks for Best of Genre and Halo is smack dab in the middle of their action lineup. Go take a look!

Total Codex Review @ IMG

There's a new review for Myth: The Total Codex up at IMG. For those of you who are not as familiar with Bungie's previous work, the Total Codex includes Myth: The Fallen Lords, Myth II: Soulblighter, the Chimera expansion pack, the strategy guides for both Myth and Myth II, and a collection of many of the best third-party maps, mods and other creations made by Mythers. All for about $20.

It's a great opportunit to experience Bungie's groundbreaking Myth series if you already haven't... These games are what made me a Bungie fan, and I was previously a Quaker. If you're not sure if you'd like to grab the Total Codex yet, then go read the review.
