Sure enough, I have returned to find my cookie eaten and the forum rife with unmarked new messages. A pox on all your houses. A few interesting items in there, though. Bungie's Matt Soell comments on console compatibility, contributing to a long discussion of the merits of console versions of Halo, and Butcher offers an interesting post on community building. There are others, but I'm still making my way through them...
An interesting note from Bungie's Matt Soell at halo.bungie.org's forum, regarding Bungie's presence at MWSF in January:
This has very little to do with us (because we obviously want to attend) and quite a lot to do with IDG Expos (who put on the MacWorld shows and, judging by certain actions and policies, do not want us to attend the SF one).
Hmmm... at last, a reason for the much discussed absence of Bungie on MWSF roster. However, he goes on to say that we can still do our part to help out:
Those of you who are especially concerned, however, may wish to send an email to customer_service@macworldexpo.com noting that you sure would be disappointed if your favorite game companies were not represented at the Expo in sunny California this coming January.
Keep those letters polite, of course.
Kudos to Christoph Schmidt and halo.bungie.org, who have conspired to post a four page Halo preview from the German December edition of PC Games. Makes me wish my german was a little bit better. Anyone want to attempt a translation, or pick out some interesting tidbits for those of us who can't understand much more than Panzerfaust ? ':)
Despite being a very promising game in its own right, Bungie's upcoming title Oni has been overshadowed in the eyes of some by Halo. Funny to think that a company can actually have too many anticipated products.
Anyway, I put it to the voters: do you still plan on buying and playing Oni? A major concern among gamers has been the rumored lack (or poor preformance) of Oni's netplay capabilities, based on the fact that the game relies heavily on close hand to hand combat, and thus requires very low latency. A tricky problem to solve, and certainly no fault of the Oni team, but important nonetheless.
The poll is open all week, so take another look at the game if you haven't seen it lately, and then cast those votes!
A good turnout this week. Asked what they thought of the possibilty of Halo coming to consoles, such as the Playstation2, over two hundred voters participated in a fairly close poll:

While the majority of the voters appear to be optimistic about the possibility, the negative and apathetic vote was fairly close from the beginning on, reversing several times. A good topic, with a nicely split vote, which raises the question: How and Why Did You Vote?
Oh yes, there is only one thing scarier than truckload of misguided youths driving around with a potato gun and a sack of ammunition: the person who inadvertantly armed them but takes the time to update a website before heading out to keep them from getting arrested.

Incredible that people are still breaking out Forge and Anvil and starting their own scenarios. Bungie has done well with their mind control lasers and subliminal messages... if they've gotten you too, stop by the Big House and see if they've got a cell waiting.
Kudos to rojay, who pointed out that Gamespot has begun posting articles on their five games that will change gaming forever, which appeared in the November issue of Computer Gaming World. The articles are the same, but not everyone has seen the magazine.
They're coming one a week, and the first is Freelancer... Halo is a week or two off yet, but forewarned is forearmed, eh?
A few interesting items at Marathon's Story, including some speculation regarding Bungie's attendance at MWSF 2000 and an Oni comic strip that is definitely worth checking out. Some people come up with the wierdest things...

Stats DO Rock. And I have a very strong feeling that Halo's development team, including Jason Jones, feels the same way. I mean - they really rock. But not in a way that makes wankers of everyone. If you know what I mean.
Stats, in the context of the thread, are player customizable attributes (such as speed, strength, etc.). Another level of player customizability? This is all hearsay, but if so, it would be a most welcome one.
