They turned him into a pilot form to fly the ship for them.
They probebly figured out that he was a Captain and saw their chans to escape HALO.

So this would mean that the flood think the captain can fly Covenant vessels.... Anyone notice anything strange here? ;-)

Well, 343GS says to MC that they are attempting to repair the PoA to escape Halo, and that they are intelligent. If they're smart enough to repair a ship, I think they'd also have to be clever enough to know the difference.

The Flood intelligence is parasitic, so the only reason why they'd know the difference is that their hosts know the difference. Similarly, that parasitic learning (passed aero-chemically? they leave enough pieces all over the place...) is where the Flood'd pick up an understanding of plasma physics and nuclear reactor maintainence on the fly.
Good thing their reflexes are mostly shot to hell, though, or The Library would be harder than it already is!

Actually, do we know that for sure? I remember GS saying something like "their parasitic nature belies the Flood's intelligence"-- meaning that even though they are parasites, they aren't dumb-- but I was never really sure if they were just piggybacking on the host's knowledge and skills or not.

And yeah, it is a good thing their reflexes are shot. If they were firing those ARs at the full rate on The Library... we'd be toast :)

No they cant just be piggybacking on the host knowledge because the covenant flood types use human weapons where as the normal covenants never touch them, so this brings me to beleve that all flood are connected in some way, like a hive mind of some kind!

If you look carefully at the "Captin Blob" you'll notice he looks like he has four legs. The extra two look like Elite legs to me. So, if the flood combine a very smart human and a Covenant (who is also likely to be smart and a pilot) they get a creature that knows how to fight well with both types of weapon, is smart, and who can certainly fly both a Covenant ship and a human ship in one. And how do you know the creature can fly a Covenant ship? Because Keyes did at the end of T&R. Remember the drop ship he used to kill the Hunters?

If you look at Keys you can see that the tenticals are connected to the control pannels as well as the walls, it must have been able to manipulate the controls in some way.

Two things you failed to think about.

1. At the beginning of "keys" Cortana says that the covenant where terrified that the flood would repair the T&R and escape halo.

And

c0ld vengeance is right, the flood definetely were trying to escape Halo. That's why Cortanan and the chief destroyed it, so they wouldn't get away.

Someone suggested that in official Xbox magazine. Someone a work said that Halo2 will contain another, smaller Halo, and from the trailer and interviews, it looks like Halo2 will be situated on Earth so this is my theory: Humans created Halo, And the flood (for some reason) therefore the flood would naturally pick the humans' weapons over the alien ones, and of course, Captain Keys.

Here's MY question: Why did MC punch CK's face in?

Mikemc wrote on Monday, 11/25/2002 - 10:16 am:

: Here's MY question: Why did MC punch CK's face in?

He didn't really punch his face in, he atually pulled the neural lace (the device in his skull he uses to interface with the Pillar of Autumn's systems) out of Captain Keyes' brain! The reason he did that is because it contained override codes that would allow Cortana to detonate the fusion reactors of the ship to destroy Halo (Cortana tells you about this on 'Two Betrayals'). Since the captain was now under the control of the flood and the chief couldn't do anythjing to save him he reasoned that Keyes would have wanted the him to kill him because it was the only way to stop the flood escaping. If they had found earh, that would have been it.

However in Halo 2 I think they are supposed to be returning - maybe we didn't get them all or maybe there's another Halo. After all, 343 Guilty Spark says he is the moniter of instalation 04. What about instalations 01, 02 and 03? We can presume there could be at least three others and maybe they all have the flood on them, too.

Now that I think about it, if they refer to that instalation as 04, then maybe the total number of Halos is in double figures. That means that there could be anything up to 99 Halos!!!

Also, looking at the other picture, does anybody else think that the final cutscene where Halo explodes and blows a huge chunk into the opposite side look... well. poorly done.

It clips halfway through the opposite side before it shatters.

Yeah, considering the fact that most of the animation in Halo is very good that did look a bit out of place. But I think it worked well, the ending. Seeing all that destruction with no explosion sound somehow gave it more impact. Although not realistic, most films would put explosion sounds in which in reality you wouldn't hear because you can't hear anything in space.

Thinking Alien there. :)

Have you ever seen how many Alien references in Halo there are? The marines are almost identical, most of their equipment is similar (for example, the ammo count on the guns)and the ships and vehicles are almost the same as well. Plus there's a little reference on the noticeboard outside of the bridge - take a look, you'll see which one I mean. :)

I never noticed that tree thing before. Flood are sort of green and plant-like, and the swamp that surrounds the underground network where you first find them is full of lush greenery so maybe it's just a coincidence. Then again...maybe not.

That lone flood standing at the end of the fallen tree is there because before you found the flood the Covenent probably got there first. This is likely because 343 Guilty Spark tells you about it on 'The Library'. He says "I would move that the other species present are responsible for releasing the flood. They seem most persitent in their attempts to enter restricted areas!" When they realised what they'd done they tried to imprision them again, as when Keyes and the marines are about to go into the room with the flood in a marine says "I'll try sir, but it looks like those Covenant worked pretty hard to lock it down." They didn't quite succeed in trapping them all-when you are about to leave that room loads of flood come through the doorway you came in through, so loads of them were already out by the look of it.

I didn't spot the lone flood until I'd played that level through many times and when I did it freaked me out-I was looking over my shoulder right up until you find them properly, just in case!

Ive seen that many times over, and i even attached a plasma grenade to it's head! Although i never found it's body.....Oh, and you can shoot it down, but it gets back up anyway and disappears. Note that it at the time is your ally! just look on your motion detector.

Lets use our critical thinking skills, there is covenant all over the level, an they do dislike the flood, maybe, just maybe, the covenant killed him.

0h one thing 2 add, about level 343Guilty Spark, when u have 2 use that 1 tree as a bridge, hop off the right side, an run up that little hill that 2 tha right, its kinda like a tinny tunnel or somethin, an once u get 2 the end, theres some dead covenanat, an an active camoflague thingie.

Recently Official Xbox Magazine ran a section all about suggestions people had made for Halo 2. There were many really good ideas but one that caught my eye was having a kick button as well as the normal melee attack. It would be great to have two different sorts of attack but it would waste a button, really. And Halo uses every single button and function on the Xbox controller so it's not really plausible.

However it got me thinking. I have seen people suggest being able to do different melee attacks using 'combos' a bit like a fighting game. For example pressing the melee attack button while moving left does a different attack to if you press it while moving forwards. The really cool thing about this is that you could have all different types of attacks, like a kick that's really slow but really powerful, a karate chop that's quick but weak, a punch that's half and half and so on.

But on the other hadn that might be over-complicating things a bit. Halo isn't a very complex game which is one of the main reasons it's so much fun. So maybe pressing a direction should still promt a different melee attack but each one should be just as fast and powerful, but all look different, so it's really just for fun.

Or should Bungie just not bother and keep it as it is? Maybe the Master Chief isn't ready to be the next Bruce Lee! :)

What do you think?

i think it was really really cool if u could throw your weapon after
you have used it...

LIke if you spent all the ammo you could throw your gun at them to finish them off? That'd be good but you'd have to watch you didn't lose it!

I think ive read some where that you will be able to perform combo melee attacks but I think it will be as simple as pushing the button 3 times fast.

Does anyone else think that it'd be a good idea to put melee only weapons in, like the plasma sword or just bits of lead piping and crowbards (in a homage to Half-Life ;) )and stuff? And I think it would be good if there was a level where you started unarmed and could use your fists.

Yea that makes me wonder, how hard would it of been for Bungie to of given the MC the ability to melee when he had no weapons on the POA in Halo?

And anywhere else in the game for that matter?

Dear Bungie

Please include this feature in Halo 2..
It would make my movie making alot better.

Thanks

I've though about this before and I think I know why they did it. On the first part of the Pillar of Autumn as you're heading for the bridge everyone is under attack and they wanted to create a feeling of helplessness to scare you. If you play on normal there's a bit where you open a door and an elite is waiting and roars at you, the first time that happened it really made me jump. Also you don't really get a good look at what the Covenant look like in that section, that elite is in the dark and the rest of them are all behind closing bulkhead doors so you feel more scared because you don't even know what the enemy looks like yet. They made it so you couldn't attack at all to make you feel vulnerable. It works well I think, it makes it all the more satisying to get that pistol. Since there's no other time when you are unarmed they didn't see the need to put a 'fist' attack in. It would've been cool though.

All you really need to add is a bayonet on the Assault Rifle. After all, that's the real soldiers close quarter weapon!
