Gearbox's Randy Pitchford has not one, but TWO new interviews up now, at GamersDepot and WorthPlaying. HBO and Forerunners noticed before me, mostly because they were awake... and sober. At least, I assume they were.
The GamersDepot story also had some screenshots; we've put them in the archive as usual.
Brian posted an update in the HBO forum about the status of the Mythica archive he created, which became the gold standard in Halo movie archives in a relatively short period due to its fantastic performance. He writes:
Whenever mythica does come back, there will be some changes. It'll have a lot less total capacity than before (30Mb/sec to start, down from 100Mb/sec), most importantly. There will also likely be a cap on how fast any one client can download from the server (something in the range of 1.5Mb/sec), and I'm not going to let single clients download several gigabytes in a day as has frequently happened in the past. None of this is final yet, but it should give an idea of what will happen.
The archive hasn't returned yet because the server itself hasn't yet come back from the last hosting facility, which went out of business.
In the meantime, Rampancy is willing to offer some of its capacity (admittedly, at best only 10% of Mythica's capacity at its peak) for hosting movies that have become difficult to find. Some we may already have. So if there's a movie you're looking for, but having trouble downloading, post in our Wanted Movies thread, or send me an email.
[image:3577 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0]Craig Mullins, the artist who did a lot of work with Bungie during the Marathon and Myth days-- some of which is archived here in a special Craig Mullins gallery, and more of which is at the artists' own site, goodbrush.com, is being profiled on CGNetworks. Mullins talks a bit about how he got started in digital art, and about his work processes; the story features artwork he's done for the movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within as well as other works. Some of Mullins' work is being featured in a new book:
Craig Mullins was recently honored with the Grand Master award for EXPOSÉ 1, the digital art industry's premiere book celebrating the work of digital artists worldwide. You can find Craig and many other artists' work published in EXPOSÉ 1, which is now on sale at the Ballistic Publishing website.
Congratulations to Craig, and thanks to Orion who pointed this out on Forerunners Hotline.
We've added a new feature to Rampancy (one of many in the past few weeks) that allow for UBB-style user profiles. New users who register will see some new items on the form, allowing all kinds of information to be entered. (Some, like email address, are not made public; we don't want to make Rampancy a place spammers go to find addresses.) All of the new fields are optional; you won't have to enter them to register an account.
If you already have an account, just go to the edit user information page to take a look at the new fields. The profiles also support avatars. The forum doesn't support them yet, but will, soon.
Captain Spark over at HBO has eleven new mp3 selections to their prodigious collection of Halo Dialogue Snippets, which now features over 100 clips of Halo dialogue, categorized by speaker... out of the 5000 that Bungie says exists. Nobody said it wouldn't keep them busy.
Gearbox's latest featured screenshot of PC halo features a motley collection of vehicles on Blood Gulch; Scorpions, Banshees, Warthogs and Ghosts. We've added it to our PC Halo Gallery.
A whole bunch of new vids have cropped up in the past few days, most of which were pointed out by Louis Wu at HBO.
[image:4041 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0]Tycho from Penny Arcade wrote a few lines about their last Lanwerx event, which was attended by Bungie reps and fans, and included a PC Halo tournament. Here's what he had to say:
The Lanwerx event on Saturday was a runaway success - and I'd like to thank Bungie very much for the copies of Halo PC they let us use for the event, for the two packed live demos of Halo 2, and for bringing by Joyride 's new Halo toys to check out. I'm also able to say with absolute certainty that if you should enter a Halo Tournament at some point and you are going up against the Notorious Thugs, just get back in your car and go home. Their moniker is quite accurate: Notorious because they are well known, and Thugs because they are well known for shooting people .
Hmm... maybe we need an East vs West game, to pit the winners from one of PA's Lanwerx events with the best from one of Louis Wu's LANfests. Might give the PA guys an excuse to leave the Left Coast, if only for awhile.
[image:4038 left hspace=5 vspace=5 border=0]You're going to need those flame retardant undergarments shortly. No, not a forum flamewar, but some flaming Warthog action from Xbox hexeditor extraordinaire, BOLL. His latest opus is Wheels On Fire; we;ve put it in our Movies Section.
