GameKult has reviewed Halo. Of course, you'll need to read French to understand it. HBO has reported that they liked it, except for the lack of bots and gave it a 9 out of 10 overall rating. I'll take their word for it!
Louis Wu of HBO has written a Halo review of his own. While you might expect the man behind one of the largest Halo sites online to be a bit biased, it's actually a very honest review. Louis Wu wasn't afraid to criticize what needed to be criticized and at the same time, he praised what needed to be praised. Since we all know what's good, here's an excerpt from the review that conveys a couple of the cons of Halo:
There are some sections that feel repetitive - it's not even that you've done it before (though you have) - it's more that they just seem to go on and on... But worst for me (as minor as it might seem to some of you) was cutscene behavior. Several times during the game, you trigger a cutscene... and perspective shifts from first to third person, as the action unfolds. Unfortunately, these scenes are not really tied in to the game you're playing. Usually, the Master Chief is shown carrying his trusty AR... even if you (the player) don't have an AR in your arsenal.
This is probably one of the best reviews you can read if you want to know what Halo is really about and how it stands as the game we expect it to be. Overall, HBO scored Halo 93 out of 100.
Truth And Reconciliation has had a couple of updates in the concept art and multiplayer guide sections today. A new round of art featuring alien structures has been added and part 3 of the multiplayer guide featuring vehicles is now available, too.
Deimos of Subnova has reported that the bungie.net site has updated with information about an upcoming Q&A with Jason Jones.
Here's how it will work:
Think up a question for Jason (no huge lists, please) and send it to haloqna@microsoft.com. We'll accept submissions for the rest of this week, then pick the best ones and hand them to Jason. We'll return with his answers next week.
Sounds like the perfect opportunity for you Halo fanatics to get any burning questions you have answered by the man himself. Check this link for more information.
A couple of new commands for Marius Net have been implemented:
.wank adds the currently selected player to your wank list. Players in your wank list cannot see games that you host. Use .wank again to remove the selected player from your wank list.
.wanklist displays everyone in your wank list.
These commands should prevent repeat offenders from finding your games and spoiling the fun.
Koga and others are discussing ways to access the hidden level of Myth III in the MWA forum. Since what is said within could be considered spoiler material, I won't give any details here other than it sounds very humorous.
Bungie's own Community Guy, Matt Soell, has been interviewed on VoodooExtreme on how it feels now that Halo is finally finished. They cover lots of topics, from the visuals to the fans' expectations, not to mention the challenges of making an FPS game's controls feel natural on a console:
The main challenge was getting past the knee-jerk reaction that controlling a first-person shooter with a console joypad is a fool's errand. Once we got past that, it was just a matter of putting our collective nose to the grindstone and figuring out a setup that worked. Many, many man-hours were devoted to making the controls work as well as they do.
Thanks to Louis Wu at HBO who got there first.
Quick on the heels of the announcement that XboxGW will allow Xbox users to play System Link games like Halo across the Internet, GameSpy Industries has announced that GameSpy Arcade is jumping into the fray with their own application, GameSpy Tunnel. They list Halo, Tony Hawk 2 and Nascar Heat 2000 as supported games. ie Magazine had the original article.
Okay, there were a few more words in there. But for those in the editing community chomping at the bit to make levels for Myth III with the new Vengeance editing tool, don't lose hope... it is still being worked on, and according to iggy popped on RHL, is in pretty good shape:
iggy: omg i have to say
iggy: i really really wish i would've had *this* version of vengeance when making m3
iggy: the latest build is HOLY S*** f***ing sweet!
iggy: course, i'm comparing it to it's former self, a half finished map editor with incomplete features
iggy: now it's almost a worthy loathing replacement
iggy: but it works so differently. better in some ways
iggy: i'm just a little excited cause the features i've been wanting all year are finally getting in there
Good news for Myth fans everywhere!
