Reported by Macgammer.com...
Progress update for the Mac and PC version of Halo, the most intresting information is:
additional multiplayer maps and possible new weapons and vehicles because of expected greater online play by computer users
Could this be true? Does Bungie know about this? Get all the latest info at Macgamer.com.
According to Cookieman and Yeroen at Bungie.net, a six level preview version of a new Myth solo plugin entitled The Seventh Godblighter Preview Pack should be made available today, authored by Teepens.
This expansion promises a multi-storyline plot featuring humans, dwarves, elves and goblins, with an option to play as each.
It requires that the plugin The Seventh God from Creation also be installed. Both files will be on fileball.net's Mill area; look under Myth 2.
PlayMyth.net is reporting an update on their Myth 3 project! They are reporting that Mac and PC updates should be available to download soonЩ. If you are still interested in Myth, go and check out their update. It's nice to see that Myth 3 is still alive!
With the lull in Bungie-related news that inevitably occurs in the void between releases, the natives at HBO have been getting a bit restless in their search for new information.
This search is referred to lovingly as bugging Matt .
Every once in awhile Matt decides to put down the uprising, as he did in this post, which primarily consists of answers to questions about releases with the simple phrase WID (which I assume means, When It's Done , the only official Bungie release date that has ever existed).
However, he did have this to say about Mac/PC Halo:
The last build I saw was really nice, by the way. Much left to do but still playable and cool.
So, we don't know when it first became playable, but it is playable now, half a year or more away from the expected (unofficial) release target.
Oni Breaker is an interesting project created by Pierre Terdiman. He wants to take the best parts of Oni and Max Payne and combine them into a single game. There actual screen shots!. Check out what he has done so far. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to check out what's new; there is also a new demo.
Oni Central also has updated their exclusive images section with some treats. Go and check it out!
The Cyberathlete Professional Leauge is hosting an event called CPLЃ PentiumЃ 4 Processor Winter 2002, and will take place Wednesday, December 18 and ending Sunday, December 22, 2002. This is useless information until you read the schedule, on December 21 (Saturday) at 2:00pm Gearbox will have a workshop and will feature Halo for PC! Sounds like an intresting event.
Cyberathlete Professional League is the first organization in the world to establish computer game competitions as a viable spectator sport.
Thanks to Shacknews for the info.
Infininight at Myth Village has posted that Project Magma has released the units they ported from Soulblighter to Myth: TFL as .gor files so that other mapmakers can use them.
MBO has news on the Myth Birthday Party planned at Mariusnet. November 8, 2002 marks the fifth anniversary of the release of the Myth Demo. So MariusNet will be having a party, complete with a new Co-Op challenge. And for those without Myth:TFL CDs, MariusNet will support the Myth Demo. Thanks Zandervix.
Gholsbane at MBO has posted news that an application called MythBrowser written by Kel is now available. It takes statistics data from both MariusNet and PlayMyth servers. Right now it is PC-only but a Mac version is in the works.
The Marathon Open Source page has put up another update, this time on the progress of Carbonization and the addition of networking:
Loren has also made some good progress toward bringing networking into the Classic version, but we've hit some nontrivial roadblocks along the way. In particular, getting the packet-listener to run when a new packet arrives is a problem. The SDL versions have a high-priority thread that's blocked on a select() or read() call (or something like that) most of the time. Bungie's code used an AppleTalk mechanism to have the OS call into your own code.
The full article has more technical details on what exactly the problem is, as well as the proposed solution.
MacWorld UK has an interview with Peter Tamte from Destineer Studios up that's dated October 23, but nearly all the information in it is old.
They quote Tamte from as saying Westlake will start in September to work on porting Halo to the Mac. And they also mention Kevin Browne of the Mac Business Unit of Microsoft complaining about OS X sales. (Browne left the MacBU recently.)
Thanks Louis Wu at HBO.
Not long after I posted the other item about Marathon not being dead, this headline appears on Gamespot:
New casualty of marathon gaming
No Bungie products were involved, but it seems a man in Taiwan has died after a 32-hour gaming session. It was the second such occurrence, as another man in South Korea died after apparently gaming for 86 hours straight.
Take that as a warning; some marathons can be hazardous to your health. Now excuse me, I have to see a S'pht about a Juggernaut...
Mitb at the Forerunners.org hotline server pointed out to us a news post by Mutha Flictka at Marathon.bungie.org with several updates: a renovation of the Marathon 2 terminal texts at the Marathon's Story page (still a joy after all these years), some more new 3d models for Aleph One at source.bungie.org, and even more updates at the Scenario News page.
Who says Marathon is dead? Nobody!
Doobie from udogs.net wrote in to Mariusnet to say that their site is temporarily available on the web at udogs.projectmagma.net, and they thank doughie.com for hosting their Grounds for Assault map in the absence of MythVillage's hosting until their own site comes back.
