Opening Up The Digital Sofa Bed
On the eve of the autoupdate that is supposed to deal a crushing blow to cheaters in Halo 2 matchmaking on Xbox Live, there have been a variety of discussions on various sites and forums about whether or not the matchmaking model delivers on the "virtual couch" claims that Microsoft makes for the service. The latest of Narc's Retorts asks: is Xbox live creating a digital divan, or a digital divide?
Autoupdate 4 For Halo 2 To Detect Cheaters
Frankie has posted on Bungie.net that on July 20, 2005, Bungie will release Autoupdate 4 for Halo 2, which will detect players using modified Halo 2 content and ban them from Xbox Live Halo 2 matchmaking, permanently, with no possibility of appeal.
This includes the use of hardware mods (modchips), so-called soft mods, and game saves or game types saved using Action Replay or similar devices.

When It Left Us, It Was But A Learner... Now It Is The Master
Bungie's original Halo title, first shown to the public running on a Mac at MacWorld in New York in 1999, subsequently re-targeted for the Xbox and released in 2001, then ported to the PC by Gearbox and then re-ported to the Macintosh again by Westlake Interactive and published by MacSoft Games, has now come full circle: the Macintosh Demo of Halo is now available. You can download it from these locations:

When Webmasters Misread
The earlier Narc's Retort about an IHT article has been removed; a helpful reader pointed out I had in fact misread a key sentence in the original article and therefore my main criticism was unfounded. Still, this IHT article refers to LAN Fests as "orgies" which provokes sort of the wrong kind of imagery...
Bungie Updates Playlists, Takes On Korea
Bungie.net has a couple of updates today; SketchFactor has posted that the last Humpday Challenge pitted Bungie against Team Korea where Bungie won a best four of five match; next they'll take on Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Still Haven't Found What You're Looking For?
Subnova has a new feature called Seeker which you can use to search more than a dozen different Halo sites, including Bungie.net, Halo.Bungie.Org, Rampancy.net, and many others. You can search using Seeker or read about what Seeker does. Thanks Louis Wu at HBO for the heads-up and for using the headline I was going to use.
